The port of Castellón has three floating barriers for use in case of oil spills in harbour waters.
- This is an anti pollution barrier for the inner harbour basin and consists of three sections each 150 metres long designed to contain any spills of crude or refined oil.
- This barrier has been added to that already installed in the Iberdrola canal which measures 75 metres so that PortCastelló has 525 metres of barrier for use in the interior so that the port is prepared for any kind of spill.
- The barrier is designed for use in open water at the entrance of the port. It measures 400 metres long and weighs 2,400 kilos and is unique in Europe being of an inflatable type so that it automatically extends itself once it comes into contact with the water. It can be used in multiple ways since it can also be used in the interior of the port. It has been placed on the breakwater at the entrance of the harbour. Another special feature of this state of the art barrier, is the speed with which it can be put into place and then recovered, only ten minutes. It is equipped with a fresh water supply so that it can be cleaned while it is being taken and the risk of accidents is reduced since the unfolding process is automatically achieved by a hydraulic system.
