PortCastelló finalises a new cruise with 850 passengers with a stopover in Peñíscola in October

10-04-2024. The Port Authority of Castellón has finalised a new cruise ship with 850 German passengers and 400 crew members that will call at Peñíscola on 23 October.

The Amera ship belonging to the German shipping company Phoenix Reisen returns to the province with a cruise that includes an extensive programme of activities with excursions to the city of Castellón, Peñíscola, Benicàssim and the desert of Las Palmas, Morella, birdwatching in Prat de Cabanes and Traiguera with a visit to the millenary olive trees and the Font de la Salut and its sanctuary.

The Port Authority’s chairman, Rubén Ibáñez, explained that “the range and attractiveness of our province as a top tourist destination, as well as the trust placed in us by RC Travel, the German shipping company’s tour operator, were the key factors in this ship’s return to Castellón and Peñíscola”.

Likewise, Ibáñez highlighted, “the strategic location of Castellón, the uniqueness of the region and the attractiveness of our province for foreign visitors”, pointing out that, “we have been working for some time on the potential of cruise tourism as an economic driver and this work is beginning to bear fruit with the growth that the sector has experienced in recent years”. The Chairman of PortCastelló went on to say that “this is the tenth cruise ship stopover confirmed until 2025, which will contribute to spreading out tourism throughout the year and allow around 8,000 cruise passengers to visit the province”.

The Port Authority’s most senior official made the announcement during his visit to Seatrade Cruise Global. This is the most important event in the cruise sector, bringing together more than 600 companies and institutions from 120 countries at the Miami Convention Center. He attended the event with the director of the Port of Castellón, Manuel García, and the Director of the PortCastelló Foundation, Susana Soria.

The Port Authority of Castellón is present at the fair, together with 23 port authorities: A Coruña, Alicante, Almería, Bahía de Algeciras, Bahía de Cádiz, Baleares, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cartagena, Castellón, Ceuta, Ferrol, Huelva, Las Palmas, Málaga, Melilla, Motril, Santander, Sta. Cruz de Tenerife, Sevilla, Tarragona, Valencia and Vigo.

They are attending to consolidate the image of the ports as receivers of cruises, presenting the infrastructures and quality services and to contribute to reinforcing this industry, important not only for the economy of the port cities, but also for that of the country as a whole.
