PortCastelló closes the first quarter of the year with a 45% increase in freight traffic

05/04/2024. Castellón port closes the first quarter of this year with a 45% increase in freight traffic, rising from 1,049,680 tonnes in January to 1,523,143 tonnes in March. With these figures, PortCastelló closes the quarter with a cumulative total of 3.9 million tonnes of freight.

The Castellón port also obtained a good record in liquid bulk traffic in the first three months of the year compared with the previous year, with an increase of 1.8%.

Moreover, March is already the best month for solid bulk traffic in the last eight months, with a total of 613,626 tonnes.

In addition, the increases recorded in the first quarter of the year in PortCastelló’s two main cargoes, oil and feldspar, are worth noting. Oil traffic increased by 13.8% in the first three months, with a total of 1.2 million tonnes. Meanwhile, feldspar traffic increased by 4.4%, closing the period with 605,650 tonnes.

These figures show that at the end of the first quarter, the main cargo in Castellón port was liquid bulk, 56.6% of the total, followed by solid bulk, with 37.2%, and finally general cargo, with 6.2% of the total.

The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rubén Ibáñez, commented that “the current trend points to the growth and recovery of freight traffic”. The highest authority of PortCastelló referred to Castellón’s port as a tool for growth and the largest logistics platform in the province. “We are serving our productive sectors and continue to work towards developing infrastructures that will make us more competitive and allow us to attract new traffic.”
