25-01-2024. The Port Authority of Castellon has revived the Castellon Cruise Club at Fitur 2024 to promote cruise tourism and pursue a common strategy to draw more cruise calls to the Port of Castellon while also furnishing shipping companies with a wide range of destinations and experiences which their passengers can explore in the province. “The idea is to ensure the city and the province has a diverse array of tourism choices all year round,” commented the Chairman of the Port Authority of Castellon, Rubén Ibáñez.
“We’ve restarted this committee to lay the groundwork for attracting new tourists to Castellon and to make the business community more mindful of their needs,” he added.
The working committee has raised the profile of PortCastelló’s commitment to the cruise sector at the International Tourism Fairm where the Port Authority of Castellon has confirmed calls by two cruise ships, bringing the number scheduled for the next two years to ten.
The members of the Castellon Cruise Club are the Port Authority and the PortCastelló Foundation along with other organisations supporting tourism in the city and province of Castellon. They include the Castellon Municipal Tourist Board (City Council), the Castellon Provincial Tourist Board (Provincial Council), the Castellon Chamber of Commerce, the Valencian Region Tourist Board (Regional Government), Jaume I University and Castellon Airport.
The committee’s goals are to promote ecotourism; draw up a guide identifying the criteria for earning eco-friendly port certification; steer Castellon province establishments through the process to obtain the EU Ecolabel; build tools and catalogues for sustainable tours and raise awareness and educate all stakeholders in this type of tourism such as guides, taxis, shuttle buses, shops and restaurants.
The meeting at Fitur comes in addition to the promotional events planned for this year which PortCastelló is taking part in through its Foundation. They include Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, MedCruise in Tarragona, Seatrade Med and MedCruise in Malaga, the World Travel Market in London and the International Cruise Summit in Madrid.
The Chairman of the Port Authority of Castellon pointed out that “Castellon has many unique tourist attractions in Spain and the purpose of all these meetings and attendance at specialised trade fairs is to ensure that cruise industry companies choose Castellon as a home port and an interesting call on their routes.” He also noted that PortCastelló is a member of two of the leading international cruise associations, MedCruise and CLIA (Cruise Line International Association). “Both organisations bring us into direct contact with decision-makers in designing routes through B2B presentations and interviews.”
