The Parrots and Perfecto Miserable open the “Al Port” concerts

3 February 2023

This Saturday, 4 February, from 11.30 a.m. onwards, the Plaza de Setè square on the Costa Quay will be the venue for the start of the “Al Port” 2023 entertainment programme, consisting of a series of 15 free concerts, two electronic music parties and five new murals that will give shape to an avenue of art on the fishing quay.

The Port Authority of Castellon has launched the third annual “Al Port” festival, promoting a series of concerts that combine a Spanish national artist with a local artist, which is a great way to discover new talent, whilst increasing the number of cultural and gastronomic events at the Grao de Castellon.

This third festival brings together emerging artists, all with their own songs, along with regular festival acts such as Triángulo de Amor Bizarro, Amatria, Javiera Mena, Mujeres and Karavana.

Vibra Mahou, the Mahou Cinco Estrellas music platform, is once again backing this year’s festival promoted by the Port Authority of Castellon, which is promoting live performances to encourage quality music events in the city. Along with Vibra Mahou, the “Al Port” festival is sponsored by Beefeater and Royal Bliss and is organised by the Castellon-based company A Ciencia Cierta.

The Parrots are a garage-rock group from Madrid somewhere in between The Strange Boys and Black Lips, who have already played at festivals such as Mad Cool, Les Arts, San San, Bristol Festival and FIB 2018, as well as doing an extensive 26-date tour of the United States. Although its members got together in 2008, the band broke through in 2013, thanks to the internet and a couple of videos that rapidly racked up thousands of views.  They have recorded three studio albums and their collaboration with C. Tangana confirms that they are a band with huge potential. They also released a cover of the song “Soy Peor”, by the Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, which has received very positive reviews on social networks thanks to their totally different, very personal take on the track. “This song is now definitely part of the history of The Parrots, so we would like to thank Benito for creating it. It’s a song that people really enjoy at the gigs and we love to play it”, says Alex.

They are the leading lights (along with Hinds) of the new wave of Spanish garage rock, although they don’t like the idea of being labelled: “We always define ourselves as a rock ‘n’ roll band with touches of garage and surf”. The band is made up of the Madrid duo Alex de Lucas and Diego García, with Dani on drums.

Perfecto Miserable from Castellon will be in charge of opening the festival. Nello (guitar), Pablo (guitar and vocals), Guille (bass and backing vocals) and Álvaro (drums), who were attracted by the alternative rock of the 90s and the independent scene of the 2000s, began writing their own songs at the end of December. These songs tell the story of the boredom and chronic sadness of today’s generations. Their first album came out of a previous set of demos in 2022 and they are confident that all their fans will be behind them at the “AI Port” event.
