Christmas at the port

14 December 2023

The Chairman of the Port Authority of Castellon, Rubén Ibáñez, today unveiled the extensive programme of activities for this Christmas at PortCastelló entitled “Christmas at the Port” designed to open the port up to the city.

“We have put together a diverse programme of free activities for everyone to enjoy from the youngest to the oldest,” said Rubén Ibáñez. “We are embarking on a new journey by launching a new, innovative programme designed for everyone to come to the Port and have fun in this unique setting.” The Chairman of PortCastelló added that “this programme is part of the commitment I made when I took office to bring the port and the province together.”

The Port’s Christmas programme kicked off with switching on the lights on 7 December in an innovative display organised for the first time in PortCastelló with the engagement of the port community and in partnership with Castellon City Council and the Festival Board. The show features a play of lights on the iconic Moruno Building and the Torre del Mar and creates a magical and innovative environment.

The other activities will be held between Sunday 24 December and Friday 30 December in venues along the Port of Castellon’s waterfront in Séte Square and on the Costa Quay.

The programme includes drum sessions Christmas craft workshops, children’s entertainment, bouncy castles, activities for the little ones and a Pop Rock evening (poster attached).

The Port Authority is additionally bringing to the port the acclaimed tribute to the Lion King “From Simba to Kiara” by Onbeat, a musical which has already been seen by over 500,000 people on its tour of Spain and on Gran Vía in Madrid. The show will take place on Thursday 4 January at 5 pm in the Sala Grau next to the Gran Casino. Admission is free until seating capacity is full and tickets can be picked up at the Port Authority of Castellon’s offices from tomorrow, Friday, on weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm.

Rubén Ibáñez also announced other initiatives which have been launched to experience the magic of PortCastelló and engage the public. They include a photography competition on PortCastelló’s Instagram social media channel. The rules of the competition are available at PortCastelló_oficial and on the website

The winner will get a trip for two to the Columbretes Islands. “We hope our local community will capture a snapshot of the Christmas festivities in the Port of Castellon.”

In addition, on Monday 18 December, the Port Authority is to present the prizes to the winners of the 10th Christmas Card Competition which was entered by nearly a hundred schoolchildren aged between 3 and 11 from all over the province. The winning drawing in each category has been used to design the Port Authority’s Christmas card which sends season’s greetings to our customers, suppliers, institutions, companies and friends. The purpose of this competition is to step up our port’s engagement with the province while “getting young people involved with the Port of Castellon and showing them the significance of its economic role in Castellon’s society as part of our CSR Action Plan.”

The culmination of the Christmas programme will be the traditional Three Kings Parade “which this year is back to its usual timeslot in the evening”.

Rubén Ibáñez invited “everybody to come to the Port of Castellon, as it belongs to everyone, and join in these festivities. This is a time to share, celebrate and strengthen our community ties.” He added that “we want people to see the port as more than just an infrastructure and to recognise us as an organisation that arranges activities and seeks to be part of the city.”
