PortCastelló will improve solid bulk operations with concrete separators

7 March 2022

The Port Authority of Castellón awards 237,840 euros for the placement of concrete separators to delimit the storage areas for solid bulk in its south dock. The objective is to guarantee compliance with environmental protection and security measures in port operations related to this type of traffic. The separators will be four meters high and the execution period of the work is three months.

This investment is part of the set of actions promoted by PortCastelló in terms of environmental sustainability to improve the efficiency of solid bulk loading and unloading. It must be remembered that the port of Castellón ranks second in the Spanish port system in terms of solid bulk traffic, and this “pushes us to combine this growth with the well-being of our neighbors, and that means carrying out respectful operations that are adapted to the goods ”, stated the president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rafa Simó.

PortCastelló has been developing various environmental protection actions, mostly related to the reduction of particles in the atmosphere. These actions have been carried out from different areas, such as the handling of stowage merchandise, circulation of road traffic, collection of materials, data collection network of the level of particle concentration, and the creation of the sustainability department and environmental information, among others.

Rafa Simó has recalled that the 2024 Strategic Plan of the port of Castellón deploys 19 objectives integrated into five strategic lines, among which blue growth stands out to promote sustainable growth based on the culture of respect for the environment and “placing people at the center of the actions of the Port Authority”, stated Rafa Simó.

In 2020, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Castellón approved a Code of Good Environmental Practices with the aim of regulating solid bulk handling operations carried out in the PortCastelló service area to mitigate the emission of particulate matter into the atmosphere, and establish the operating practices and conditions for handling this merchandise.
