The port of Castellón closed the first ten months of the year with a 2.7% growth in freight traffic. However, October reflects the downward trend by closing with 19% less traffic compared to the same month of the previous year.
Thus, PortCastelló has moved a total of 18 million tons in the year accumulated. The merchandise that grew the most was solid bulk, 6.8%, with a total of 8,160,839 tons. It is followed by liquid bulk traffic, with a 3.4% increase and 8,600,827 tons moved. Finally, 1,273,917 tons of general merchandise have been moved, which is 20.3% less compared to the same period of the previous year.
Container traffic continues its downward trend in the port of Castellón, and falls by 48.1% until October this year compared to the same period in 2019, the pre-COVID year.
With regard to the month of October, the downward trend registered in September in the port of Castellón continues, and it closes this month with 19% less freight traffic, accounting for 1,605,503 tons. Specifically, general merchandise is the one that falls the most, 52.2%, followed by solid bulk, which falls 43.9%. On the contrary, liquid bulk traffic increased by 15.5%.
With these data, liquid bulk represents 47.7% of traffic in the port of Castellón, followed by solid bulk, which accounts for 45.2% of total traffic, while general merchandise has a weight of 7.1%. .
The main goods moved in the port of Castellón so far this year are crude oil, feldspar, clay, gasoline, kaolin and fuel oil.
The main countries with which the port of Castellón maintains a commercial relationship are, in this order, Turkey, Canada, the United States, Libya, Romania and Italy.
The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rafa Simó, has pointed out that “although we are experiencing a discreet second semester in PortCastelló in terms of traffic, we must not lose sight of the fact that so far this year we have figures above those of the last year, and in fact, if we continue this trend we can close the year as one of the best in the history of the port of Castellón in terms of freight traffic.”
