18 August 2022

The Port Authority of Castellón has awarded two actions in the field of environmental sustainability worth 482,000 euros, of which 430,000 euros come from Next Generation funds, which represents 90%. This is the supply of means of prevention and fight against marine pollution and the acquisition and installation of new equipment for measuring air quality.

The first action has an execution period of 3 years and a budget of 410,000 euros, of which 389,600 come from funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Specifically, a 400-meter containment barrier will be installed in the south dock, in addition to a 150-meter barrier specifically for open waters with the possibility of being towed at 15 nautical miles per hour, with the aim of having this type of means available in the entire port area and strengthen the means of preventing and combating marine pollution.

This barrier is added to the three already existing in the port of Castellón: a 450-meter ocean barrier installed at the mouth, another located in the inner dock and another one in the Iberdrola cooling channel.

The second action has a financing of European funds of 41,000 euros of the total investment of 72,000 euros.

The execution period is 7 months and consists of the acquisition of a new station for the continuous surveillance and control of particulate matter and gases in ambient air, which will be added to the five particle analyzers integrated into the Valencian Surveillance and Control Network of Atmospheric Pollution. The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rafa Simó, has pointed out that “European funds will not only help PortCastelló to improve its competitiveness with the railway, but will also serve to accelerate our environmental protection strategy, as these two actions demonstrate”.
