The fifth edition of ‘Escala a Castelló’ has broken records by bringing together 95,000 visitors to the port of Castellón in the five days of programming. This was announced today by the mayor of Castelló, Amparo Marco, at a press conference to take stock of this event “that has come with more strength than ever and has already been anchored in PortCastelló”. The mayor was accompanied by the president of the Real Club Náutico de Castellón, Manuel Vidal, the president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rafa Simó, and Fernando Viota of the Nao Victoria Foundation.
This edition, the first after the pandemic, has had the participation of 10 historic ships, more than 150 free activities, entertainment parades, micro-story contest for children, exhibitions on the world of the sea and navigation, almost a thousand ‘sea crafts’ and the participation of the Séte Jousting. The mayor thanked the effort and enthusiasm of all the institutions involved in the organization, the involvement of the Yacht Club, as well as cultural associations of Grau.
For his part, the president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rafa Simó, has highlighted the close institutional collaboration to develop this event and the firm commitment of the City Council of Castelló “for distinguishing events when no one had them in mind”.
`Escala a Castelló’ is an example of integration of the port with its city, which has managed to place the Grau de Castelló at the epicenter of leisure and tourism since its first edition in 2018, which brought together more than 75,000 visitors. It is considered the most important meeting of vintage boats on the Mediterranean coast and is organized by the Ajuntament de Castelló, with the collaboration of Turisme Comunitat Valenciana and PortCastelló and is sponsored by Unesco. This event has been maintained despite special circumstances such as the pandemic, taking all necessary preventive measures.
For all these reasons, the jury of the Faro PortCastelló awards decided to award the Culture prize to this event. The award ceremony will take place next Friday, May 6th, when the Faro PortCastelló 2022 awards gala will be held.
