25-05-2021. The specifications for the contracting of the works of the railway bridge and its railway connection with the north dock of the port of Castellón have been published. The base budget for the tender is 12,502,918 euros + VAT and an execution period of 22 months. The deadline for submitting offers ends on June 25.
This action is part of the set of investments foreseen in the Business Plan of the Castellón Port Authority in terms of connectivity and has a subsidy of 20% from European funds through the “Connect Europe” mechanism. PortCastelló is the sixth port in the Spanish port system to obtain this type of funding, which the European Union only grants to actions that it considers essential for the transnational network.
The works consist of connecting the two docks of the port by means of an 891-meter road and a double retractable bridge for railway use with Iberian and international gauge. This bridge will have two moving sections of 61 meters each. The expected railway port traffic will be containerized goods and solid bulks. Given the amount of the contract, which exceeds 12 million euros, the works were recently authorized by the Council of Ministers.
With this project, progress is being made in the productive infrastructures planned by the Castellón Port Authority in terms of connectivity, which aim to generate employment in the environment and make PortCastelló a more efficient and competitive port ”, according to the president of the public body , Rafa Simó.
