Escala a Castelló

The mayor presents the third edition and highlights the importance of continuing to anchor the event in Castelló as a local tourist reference

The third edition of Escala a Castelló will be held from October 8 to the 22nd, with two participating historic ships, the Nao Victoria and the Andalusian Galleon, and with a specific security protocol to guarantee compliance with health measures against covid- 19. The mayor of Castelló, Amparo Marco, today presented the initiative together with the regional secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, the president of the Port Authority, Rafa Simó, and the councilor for Tourism, Pilar Escuder, accompanied by part of the crew of the Nao Victoria, who is already tied up in the Grau.

“The covid-19 made it impossible to develop this edition in April as it was originally conceived, with numerous participating vessels, but we opted to reorient the initial approach to ensure, at least, that we could celebrate a special edition with the objective of consolidating a festival that has already placed Castelló on the map of international marine festivals ”, explained the mayor. “In difficult times, it is important to continue betting on events like this and for another year to anchor the name of Castelló to the world of seafaring traditions,” he said.

“We have worked to guarantee the celebration of an edition that makes safety compatible with the visit to the ships and the pertinent health protection measures will be taken. It is absolutely essential that we all do our part to avoid risks”, said the mayor.

All those activities that could suppose an agglomeration of people have been suspended, such as the market or the traditional entry of the boats that used to gather hundreds of people at the dock. During the guided tours of the historic boats, there will be actors who will recreate customs of the time. Everything within the controlled and limited area so as not to promote any concentration and with marked itineraries. Visits are free, upon reservation of entry to guarantee capacity control, and will be held from October 8 to 22, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Reservations can only be made online from today, through the Escala a Castelló website: www.escalaacastello.com

In the presentation ceremony, the regional secretary of Tourism highlighted that “Castelló has found a very successful line of work in the seafaring fairs, which it has consolidated for three years with Escala” and has stressed that “the brand takes special care when things are going wrong, so it is time to continue building brand architecture, with attributes and values such as security to incorporate it into the image of a destination ”.

The president of the Port Authority has highlighted “the collaboration and support of the port in all actions aimed at bringing the port closer to the city and the city to the port.” “Thanks to the City Council, the port was put on the tourism map and we continue to work in this line, especially this complex year,” Simó stressed.
