The Port Authority of Castellón presents its sustainable model at the most important trade fair in this sector

The port of Castellón is taking part in Seatrade Europe 2019, the most important trade fair in the cruise ship sector, held in Hamburg (Germany) , to show its potential as a cruise destination. And it is doing so by displaying excellent results. This year 5 cruise vessels have visited the Port of Castellón, thereby exceeding the average of 1 or 2 annual cruises.

In addition, these are larger cruise vessels, which has increased the number of cruise passengers arriving in Castellón, from an annual average of 700 to 5,000 this year.

The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, has stated that this data is the result of the coordinated work of the organizations involved: Castelló City Council and Provincial Council, Valencian Tourism Agency, Airport, Chamber of Commerce, Universitat Jaume I of Castelló, B&A Europe and the PortCastelló Foundation. Also of the shops and restaurants that have joined the “Castellón Cruise Friendly” group that provides a guarantee of quality that recognizes the standards of time and attention necessary for cruise passengers.

In addition, the provincial tourism board, the Valencian Agency and the PortCastelló Foundation have organized throughout the year the visit of large cruise companies that, for the first time, have come to see in situ the destinations that the province has to offer, such as Peñíscola, Morella , Benicàssim or caves of Sant Josep de Vall d´Uixó. They have also looked into the possibilities of leisure offers, such as visits to vineyards, leisure and gastronomy facilities, golf, and innovative ideas that have proved successful such as paella cooking.

The president of the Port Authority of Castellón has emphasised the value the sustainable model that is promoted by PortCastelló: “In Castellón we will not suffer the congestion of other cities which have become popular with cruise ship tourism because cruise ships are distributed throughout the territory.” Francisco Toledo has pointed out that “in Castellón we have the opportunity to grow in a sustainable way in this type of tourism that leaves wealth in the province and that is the objective”.
