Compared with February last year figures are up 9.6% to 1.561.787 tons
PortCastelló continues its steady growth and closes its best February ever for goods traffic. 1.561.787 tons of goods passed through the port during the month which represents a growth of 9.6% compared to the same month of the previous year.
The President of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo has made public that it was also the best month ever for the Port of Castellón in solid bulk traffic. 472.467 tons were recorded which is 25.2% more than the same period of the previous year. These figure confirm that Castellón is the port for Ceramics and demonstrates the excellent form of ceramics sector in the province of Castellón which imports raw materials for its production.
Bulk liquid traffic also went up in PortCastelló in February, reaching 849.451 tons, which represents an increase of 10,9% over the same period of the previous year.
At the same time, general goods traffic went down 15.1% reaching 237.826 tons; container traffic also went down 10,6% 16.973 TEUs going through the port in February this year.
The president of the Port Authority pointed out that “the port is like a thermometer for economic activity and a 10% in goods traffic in February growth 10% means the generation of direct and indirect employment for our region.”
The Port of Castellón has now reached 3.280.190 tons of goods traffic so far this year. Francisco Toledo recalled that, “2019 is the year in which we will reap the rewards of the strategy we have adopted to place Castellón among the leading ports of the country.” In fact PortCastelló closed 2018 climbing to ninth position amongst the 46 ports that make up the Spanish Ports System.
