5 February 2019

The Port Authority will assign 3.4 million euros to this project

The Port Authority of Castellón has adjudicated the new bulk liquids dock project in the south basin to UTE CYES MARITIME WORKS – ROVER ALCISA for the sum of 3.443.850 euros. This has been the most economically and technically advantageous offer, saving 553.000 euros, being adjudicated at 13.85% lower than the price of tender.

The period for carrying out the works is 8 months, so the port of Castellón will have this new installation available by the end of the year. It will become the only public dock for this type of traffic in PortCastelló and will compliment the existing private ones. It will be for available for use by any operators who need it and for traffic from the fruit and vegetables sector.

The President of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, stated that “having this new dock available will allow the port of Castellón to increase its capacity and to respond to the increase in traffic of bulk liquids after the investments that have been made by UBE and BP as well as the Masol Biodiesel plant, the biggest in Europe.

In fact, PortCastelló closed 2018 as the seventh port for this type of traffic of the 46 ports that make up the Spanish system. To be more specific, last year 10.393.834 tons of bulk liquids were moved through the port of Castellón, an increase of 32.7% compared to the previous year.

The new dock for bulk liquids will be located just to the east of the biodiesel plant on the connecting breakwater of the south basin. It will be able to accommodate vessel between 5.000 and 45.000 tpm (dead weight) of lengths between 110 and 210 metres. The installation has been designed with a flaoting docking quay and three mooring platforms which will serve to secure the vessels.
