The Port of Castellón has grown 16% during the first nine months of this year and has already gone over the 16 million ton mark
The port of Castellón closes September with an all time record, exceeding for the first time the 2 million ton mark. To be exact, 2.010.680 tons of goods. In this way September becomes the best month in the history of the port in total traffic and is a 30.7% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.
It is also the best month ever for solid bulks with a total of 851.872 tons, a 50% increase compared to September 2017. It is also the best month ever for bulk liquids, with a total of 917.314 tons, 36,9% up on last year.
The port showed a 20% decrease in general goods with a total of 238.422 tons, and an 11,6% decrease in the number of containers with a total of 16.404 TEUs.
These figures signify that the port of Castellón has an accumulated growth of 15.51% in goods traffic so far this year and with three months left, has already reached the figure of 16.151.494 tons, which is a growth 15,5% compared to the previous year.
The figures consolidate PortCastelló’s position in ninth place in the ranking of Spanish ports and fourth place for solid bulks. With this current growth trend, the port of Castellón expects to pass the figure of 20 million tons by the end of the year, thus passing the previous record of last year which was nearly 18 million tons.
The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, has affirmed that this growth has been the result of, “the effort and determination of all the port community to continue working towards making the port sustainable and competitive and to follow a common road map which is being developed by the working groups within the Strategy Plan.”
