The Port will open a new dock for smaller luxury cruise ships on the Levante dock
The week the PortCastelló Foundation is taking part in the Seatrade Cruise Med Fair which is being held in Lisbon in order to improve its position as a cruise ship destination. This international fair that specialises in this sector is held twice a year. The programme includes conferences, networking and an exhibition area.
The PortCastelló Foundation is participating with a presentation entitled ‘Hidden Gems Uncovered: How a New to Cruise Port Arrived on the Cruise Map’ , which describes the case of Castellón and the significant increase in visits by cruise ships which it has achieved, six next year. The presentation is being given by the person in charge of cruise ship traffic, Susana Soria.
This growth has been possible thanks to the new strategy put in place by the Port Authority of Castellón through the “Castellón Cruise Club”, an organisation made up of the various groups involved in the promotion of cruise ship traffic, Castellón Town Council, the Valencian Tourist Agency the Chamber of Commerce, the PortCastelló Foundation, Castellón Provincial Council, Aerocas, the University of Castellón and the Port Authority of Castellón. Among the most important actions taken this year has been the establishment of a guarantee of quality, “Castellón Cruise Friendly”. Fifty businesses in Castellón have registered in the programme which guarantees that they will fulfil certain criteria established for attending cruise ship passengers.
At the fair PortCastelló will also promote the new dock for smaller luxury cruise ships on the Levante dock which will be opened next year in order to comply with requirements from shipping companies. The particular advantage of this new dock is that it is close to the ‘Muelle de Costa’ where most of the restaurants and other leisure facilities of the maritime district are located . The Crystal Spirit will be the first ship to use these new facilities on the 17th May 2019.
Other commercial activities undertaken by the PortCastelló Foundation in recent months have included inviting operators and shipping companies to visit Castellón to see at first hand what the town has to offer. During these “fam trips” representatives of the sector have the opportunity to see what the province has to offer the tourist and to taste the food and experience cultural activities.
