The port of Castellón has recorded its best ever month for solid bulk traffic, moving 674.386 tons, 28% more then the same period last year. The previous record was set in August 2017 when 666.438 were moved through the port. Solid bulk traffic has grown 8.45% this year so far, a total of 2.669.330 tons.
Bulk liquid traffic has also increased over the last month at PortCastelló by 26.3% a total of 832.236 tons. So far this year the accumulated total for bulk liquids is 4.270.184 tons, a 28.13% increase this year so far.
General goods went down in May by 9.3% to 324.708 tons, and container traffic stands at 22.783 TEUs, a decrease of 5.1%.
Over all, goods traffic rose by 18.3% in May closing with 1.831.330 tons. With these figures PortCastelló has grown 13.19% so far this year with a total of 8.415.686 tons, thus continuing its trend of steady growth.
The data confirms the importance of the productive infrastructure on which the PortAuthority has placed so much emphasis, with the aim of consolidating the growth of traffic at PortCastelló. Among the most important developments have been the urbanization of the South Basin and the extension by 90,000 square metres the area dedicated to the logistic needs of the ceramics sector.
These new investments, together with a reduction in tariffs form a part of the strategy implanted by the president of the Port Authority of Castellón Francisco Toledo, designed to achieve sustainable development for the pprt of Castellón which produces an increase both in direct and indirect employment.
