The Port of Castellón has grown 10,8% in the first half of the year and has exceeded the 10 million ton barrier.
The port of Castellón registered its best ever figures for June in goods traffic, 1.798.527 tons, 0,5% more than the same period of the previous year, which was,t that point, the best ever monthly traffic result. With these figures PortCastelló has grown 10,8% in the first half of the year and reached 10.216.864 tons.According to the statistics of the Port Authority of Castellón, it is also the best month ever for bulk solids with 596.107 tons, 5,8% more than in 2017. PortCastelló has moved 3.265.437 tons of this type of material so far this year.
Traffic in general goods has also grown at the port of Castellón by 11,8% in June with 287.000 tons. That is a total of 1.756.364 tons in the first six months of 2018. At the same time traffic in containers has also increased by 9.9% with 19.647 TEUs, although there is a slight decrease over the years so far of 0.5%.a
The only traffic that has decreased in bulk liquids, showing 911.804 tons, 5,6% less than in June 2017. Nevertheless the accumulated growth in this type of traffic is 20.56% and has gone over the 5 million ton level, to be specific 5.181.987 tons.
These figures confirm the value of the productive infrastructures that have been put in place by the Port Authority of Castellón, with the objective of consolidate growth and the diversification of traffic at PortCastelló. Among the most important of these are the urbanization of the south basin and the extension of the port logistics platform by 90,000 square metres in order to be able to respond to the demands of the productive sectors of the province in particular the ceramics industry.
The investments in the port of Castellón, together with the reductions in tariffs, form a part of the strategy designed by the president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, in order to produce sustainable growth of the port.
These measure have been possible thanks to the economic results obtained by the port of Castellón which is now placed as the fourth most profitable port in the Spanish system. In fact, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Castellón has recently approved the annual accounts for 2017 which showed a result of 9.537.332 euros, 52% more than the previous year.
