Bulk Cargo, The Caixa Foundation and SEDCAS have been selected for the PortCastelló Lighthouse Awards

The panel of judges has recognised the work done by these entities in the fields of Environmental Protection, Social Commitment and safety in the Workplace respectively.

The Port Authority of Castellón has hosted the last of the meetings of the panel of judges for the III PortCastelló Lighthouse Awards. On this occasion the meeting was between those responsible for choosing in the sections of Environmental Protection, Social Commitment and Safety in the Workplace. The entities selected were, Bulk Cargo Logistics, La Caixa Bank Foundation and the Stevedore Association of the port of Castellón. These proposals will be put before the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Castellón.

The panel has recognised the constant efforts made by  Bulk Cargo Logistics S.A.U to pay attention to environmental issues. The company was created in 1999 to attend to the logistical needs of the market and currently occupies a 47,000 sq metre site next to the Ceramica quay. In 2017 it undertook an extension to its facilities, constructing a closed warehouse  for the storage of solid bulk materials with an investment of 3 million euros giving it the most modern storage facilities of this type.

In the field of social commitment the panel has highlighted the social work undertaken by the Caixa Bank Foundation with a budget of 510 million euros in 2017, which includes a wide range of cultural, scientific and educational  activities, such as mobile exhibition ‘Illusions – magic or science?’ which the organisation programmed last August on the Costa quay in PortCastelló and which was visited by 32.290 people.

The award for Safety in the Workplace went to the Association of Stevedores of the port of Castellón  (SEDCAS), which comprises all the stevedore companies currently operating in the port of Castellón conducting loading and unloading operations of vessels. The panel placed particular emphasis on the established practices of accident prevention and the quality management award ISO 9001 as well as the added challenge in 2017 of taking on 45 new workers. In spite of an increase in the number of hours worked, the accident rate has fallen 33%

In total, the panel of judges or the III PortCastelló Lighthouse Awards has included 55 people. A peer group drawn manly from individuals from outside the Port  Authority. The awards will be made officially at a ceremony to be held next April.
