The strategy of the Castellón Cruise Club to promote cruise traffic proves effective

The port of Castellón will present what it has to offer at the International Cruise Summit

Castellón Cruise Club has made a positive evaluation of the measures taken to attract more cruise ship traffic to the port of Castellón and promote the tourist industry in the province. The institutions and interest groups which make up the organization have held a meeting which evaluated positively which have succeeded in attracting six visits by cruise ships for next year, well above the average of one or two per year until now.

This growth is fruit of the new strategy put in place by the Port Authority through the Castellón Cruise Club an organization which is made up of the main interest groups: the Town Council of Castellón, the Provincial Council of Castellón, the Valencian Tourist Agency, the Chamber of Commerce, Aerocas, the University of Castellón, the PortCastelló Foundation and the Port Authority.

The most immediate action is the participation by the PortCastelló Foundation in the International Cruise Summit in Madrid on the 27th and 28th of November. The event promotes debate at an international level about the cruise ship business. Representatives of the Foundation will be seeking publicise the new purpose built quay for smaller luxury cruise vessels on the Muelle de Levante which will come into operation next year in order to attend to the demands of cruise ship companies. The most noteworthy feature of this new quay is its proximity to the Muelle de Costa, where the offer of restaurants, cafes and other leisure activities of the maritime district is concentrated. The Crystal Spirit will be the cruise ship to inaugurate this new infrastructure on the 17th May 2019.

At the same time within the commercial actions taken by the PortCastelló Foundation, nine trips have been organized to allow cruise ship operators and shipping agents to get to know Castellón as a destination for cruise ship traffic. During these ‘fam trips’ agents from this sector will be able to familiarise themselves with the gastronomy and culture of the province.

During the meeting it was agreed to intensify the “Castellón Cruise Friendly” initiative. This programme is designed to assure quality service to cruise ship passengers who arrive at the Port of Castellón. Currently 50 commercial establishments have signed up to this programme for which the Chamber of Commerce will provide free English courses with the specific aim of improving language skills in the context of dealing with tourists.
