Solid bulks and general cargo have grown more than 20% at PortCastelló
The total traffic at the the Port of Castellón in December 2016 amounted to 1.685.323 tons, an increase of 7.9% compared to December 2015 and an all time record for the month of December.
The type of traffic that showed the greatest growth was solid bulks which increased by 22.3%, going from 410.023 tons in 2015 to 501.265 tons in 2016.
After solid bulks came general cargo which increased 20.3%, going from 259.576 tons to 312.138.
Bulk liquids suffered a slight reduction of 2.4% in December 2016 compared with the same month of the previous year. This follows a trend in this sector which started at the beginning of the year.
Another very positive indicator from December 2016 concerns container traffic. Even if the increase in this type of traffic was slight, from 17.146 TEUs in 2015 to 17.399 TEUs in 2016, a rise of 1.5%, it should be pointed out that the amount of goods being transported in these containers has increased 26%, going form 220.900 tons to 278.386. It is clear that these containers have transported a far greater quantity of goods.
The president of the Port Authority of Castellón Francisco Toledo has no doubt in considering these results as “very positive….they confirm the steady growth of the port and the economy of the province of Castellón.”
Francisco Toledo went on to say that extracting the maximum advantage from the the strategic location of the port and collaborating with companies that work in the port sector “are actions which will take this year and will contribute to encouraging commercial activity at the port.”
