The Port of Castelló closes February 2017 with record figures for goods traffic
Despite tension with the stevedores growth is at 4.4%
The 4.4% growth in goods traffic at the Port of Castellón in February 2017 is the highest ever figure recorded. Specifically, 1.292.775 tons of goods were transported through the port, that is to say, 54,334 tons more than in February 2016. With regards to the figure so far this year the Port of Castellón has shown a 15.29% growth compared to the same period of last year.
At the same time, the port of Castellón has shown growth in all types of traffic except solid bulks. This growth has taken place despite tension with the stevedores and their calls for strikes which so far have not taken place.
The biggest growth in traffic was in the number of containers. 28.9%, going from 15,240 TEUs in February 2016 to 19,642 this year. This is followed by general goods with a growth of 14.8%. Specifically, from 246,748 tons in 2016 to 283,214 tons this year. these figures for containers and general goods are the best ever figures for February at the port of Castellón.
Liquid bulk traffic increased in February this year by 6.1%, 751,133 tons. Solid bulks were the only type of traffic which showed a lower figure than the previous year, going down 8.9% from 281.000 tons in 2016 to 256.803 in February of this year..
These figures are good results for the port of Castellón. The President of the Port Authority of Castellón Francisco Toledo commented that, “It is thanks to hard work and effort of the Port Community, good management and the path of growth being followed by companies in our province.”
