PortCastelló closes its best month ever in goods traffic

13 July 2017

14-07-2017

For the first time ever PortCastelló has exceeded 1.7 million tons  in one month and its growth so far this year stands at 9%

Goods traffic at the port of Castellon has grown 17.7% during the month of June despite the conflict with the stevedores and a drop of 95% in the Algerian market, the fourth most important for the port of Castellón, due to the import quotas fixed by that country.

Specifically, PortCastelló has moved 1.792.215 tons of goods, the highest ever monthly figure recorded by the port. The previous highest figure was recorded in April 2015,  1.698.250 tons, so this latest figure is an increase of 100,000 tons on the previous record. The type of traffic which increased most was solid bulks, 29.8%, with a figure of  563.761 tons. This is mainly due to the high level of activity in the ceramics industry of the province. This was followed by bulk liquids with a growth of 19.1% reaching   965.430 tons.

General goods showed a slight decrease of 5.2% reaching 260.504 tons. At the same time, container traffic also decreased by 8.6%, that is there were 19,520 TEUs. Both of these figures are the result of ship being rerouted because of the conflict with the stevedores and the reduction of trade with Algeria.

Nevertheless, the Port of Castellón has recorded the best month in its history and what is more closes the the first half of the year with a solid growth in goods traffic. The port has grown by 9% so far this year and 9,227,491 tons of goods had been transported through the port. The most important increases have been in phosphates (65%) clays (64%) and biodiesel (62%)
