The president of the Generalitat meets with the president of the Port Authority and pledges to prioritize investment in and around the port.
The president of the Valencian Region, Ximo Puig, visited the Port of Castellón this morning and held a meeting with the President of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, and his management team. After signing the book for distinguished visitors, Ximo Puig toured the port where he visited the centre for emergency management, Port Control, and some of the quays.
Puig stated that the Port of Castellón plays a key role in the generation of employment and he praised the dynamic contribution that the port has made to the economy of Castellón province in recent years. He went on to indicate that the Regional Government would support the Port Authority to give priority to projects around the port, to consolidate the industrial sector and attract investment.
Ximo Puig said that in his view, the creation of the port at the beginning of the century and the establishment of the Jaume I University at the end are the foundations for the renaissance of Castellón and the Valencian Community.
For his part, the president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, underlined the role of the port “as being at the heart of economic growth in the province” and highlighted the fact that PortCastelló is now tenth in the list of Spanish Ports in terms of total traffic in and fifth in terms of exports and imports. “We have diversified traffic and that is a source of wealth.”Ximo Puig and Francisco Toledo both renewed calls for the Mediterranean Corridor and its connection to the port. Puig pointed out that “it is fundamental to the economic development of the Valencian Region. The third line is not the solution and all the time that is lost in building the mediterranean corridor is time wasted for our economy.”
