Traffic grew 4.3% compared to March 2015 and the port closes the first quarter of 2016 with an increase of 11.8% over the previous year.
In March goods traffic at PortCatelló reached 1.497.491 tons, which represents an increase of 4.3% compared to March 2015, making the highest ever figure achieved in the month of March. the previous record was 2015. This figure was reached despite the celebrations for the Magdalena and Fallas Fiestas and Holy Week, all of which took place in this month.
The traffic which most most increased was bulk liquids. The figure of 783.642 tons was 8.6% higher than in March 2015, another all time record for this type of traffic.The total increase for bulk liquids in the first quarter of this year is 13.8%.The 326.969 tons of general goods moved in March represents an increase of 7.4% compared to March 2015 and a 19.5% increase for the first quarter. These figures also represent an all time record for the month of March.
The movement of solid bulks for this month was 384.477 tons, which represents a decrease of 5.7% compared to March 2015. The overall result for the first quarter is an increase of 3.1%.
Concerning container traffic, 18.180 TEUs went through the port in March which is 14.8% less than the prevous year, although the accumulated increase over the first quarter is 11%.
Taken together these figures show PortCastelló with an overall increase in goods traffic of 11.8% compared to the same period of 2015 “which represents the best start to a year in the history of the port and indicates the dynamic nature of the companies which import and export through this port,” asserted the President of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo.
