The President of the Port Authority of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, is of the opinion that these figures confirm that the port is on the path of sustained growth
Last February the total traffic at PortCastelló reached 1.236.715 toneladas, an increase of 51,2% compared to February 2015. These are the best ever figures for the month of February and exceed the previous record of 1.162.395 tons set in 2007 before the crisis.
The greatest increase has been in bulk liquids which reached 708.028 tons last February, a 77,9% increase compared to the same month in 2015. Last month the quantity of solid bulks being transported through the port was 281.953 tons, an 8.6% increase compared to the previous year and in excess of the previous record of 280.848 tons set in 2007. In general goods the total for February this year was 246.733 tons, 55,4% more than the total for the previous year, 158.750 tons. This is also the highest figure ever for general goods recorded in the month of February. The highest figure before this year was 224.558 tons, in 2014.
The traffic in containers in February this year reached 15.240 TEUs and, given that in February last year the total was 9.658, this represents an increase of 57,8%. The previous record for containers in the month of February was set in 2013 with 14.162 TEUs.
The President of the Port of Castellón, Francisco Toledo, has stated that the these figures reflect the excellent work being done by the Port Community and confirm the trend of growth both at the port and in the economy of Castellón Province. The President expressed his satisfaction with these latest figures pointing out that “they make us a more competitive port in the general market and guarantee future economic development and employment in our province.”
