The Port of Castellon is the sixth Spanish port in container traffic, according to the balance sheet published by State Ports. The Port of Castellon is situated in traffic container ranking after Valencia (first), Barcelona, Bilbao, Vigo and Algeciras Bay and ahead of Las Palmas, Tarragona, Bay of Cadiz and Cartagena. 154,812 TEUs were moved in 2012, a 23.93 percent over the previous year. It is also, in total container volume, in tenth position followed by Valencia (first), Algeciras, Barcelona, Las Palmas, Bilbao, Malaga, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Vigo and Tarragona.
The Port of Castellon is the first port in Valencia Region in solid and liquid bulk, with 7,313,127 and 3,114,303 tons respectively. It is the eighth Spanish port in terms of liquid bulk behind Cartagena (first), Huelva, Algeciras, Tarragona, Bilbao, Barcelona and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and ahead of A Coruña and Las Palmas. Furthermore, the performance of general cargo has been very positive, growing 16 percent while the liquid bulk has increased 64.8 percent.
