The Port of Castellon is situated in traffic container ranking after Valencia (first), Barcelona, Bilbao, Vigo and Algeciras Bay and ahead of Las Palmas, Tarragona, Bay of Cadiz and Cartagena. 154,812 TEUs were moved in 2012, a 23.93 percent over the previous year. It is also, in total container volume, in tenth position followed by Valencia (first), Algeciras, Barcelona, Las Palmas, Bilbao, Malaga, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Vigo and Tarragona.
That percentage increase is translated into about 30,000 containers in 2012 over the previous year. Goods traffic on the docks (Zone 1) increased by 7.85 percent, adding more than 6 million tons. However, the total traffic in 2012 was 12,949,821 tonnes in front of 13,117,726 of previous year, which has resulted in a fall of 1.2 percent, influenced partly by the technical stop of BP Oil company.
Tile export, which is the third most important traffic, increased 30 percent in 2012 over the previous year, from 1,000,000 to 1,360,000 tons. The improved infrastructure and the new commercial and strategic approaches were crucial to gain market share in the tile sector in terms of ceramic export. The putting into service of the Centenary Wharf, the incorporation of portainer cranes and modern machinery, the construction of the South Basin and the railway, favor competitiveness and ensure a better customer service.

The President of the Port Authority of Castellón, and the President of Puertos del Estado, have agreed up the costruction of the South railway link to PortCastelló. For the first time at the present government term both Presidents have departed on relevant Port issues.
PortCastelló has just received the maiden visit of the ship Genmar of the turkish company Batinak Shipping. This ship was built in 2011 and is able to hold 35,000 tons. PortCastelló ended 2011 as the 6th Spanish port in container traffic, with 124.920 TEUs, following Vigo with 172.803, according to Puertos del Estado, as a result of a 26% increase this activity. Along with this, it was the first port in terms of bulk cargo at the Valencian Comunity, with 3.244.831 tons against 2.374.045 at Valencia and 724.112 at Alicante.
PortCastelló along with Fundacion PortCastelló, through the local company Cuatroochenta, is developing the first application for mobiles and tablets of a port at Spain called PortCastelló, innitially designed for iphone and focusing on informing about port news.

SECUR MED PLUS project “Shared strategies and actions for strengthening safety at maritime and logistics sectors in the Mediterranean ” is an European project cofunded by the MED Program, taking part in it the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Marseille-Provence (France), the Business and Innovation Centre of Attika (Greece), the Regional Development Centre of Koper (Slovenia), FEPORTS (Spain) and Tuscany Region, Sicily Region and the Liguria Region of Italy, the latter being the leader of project.

The Port of Castellón already is more in number than 20,000 TEUs in the first seven months of the year compared to same period in 2010. Between January and July PortCastelló moved 75,000 containers compared to just over 54,000 in the same period last year. These figures represent an increase of 37.5 per cent in container traffic and predicts a very important figure in the total balance of the year.
The Port of Castellón has grown 17.3 percent in the first half of the year, according to data from the Department of Statistics of the Port Authority of Castellón. It has also been achieved in June its second best year in terms of percentage increase and volume of goods. It has been installed in the Inner Harbour 7 new defenses cylindrical length of 2 meters by 1.2 meters in diameter, similar to the Ceramics Spring. A cruise belonging to the Windstar Cruises company has docked at the Port of Castellón during the sunny morning of Sunday 14 November. The ship, of 134 meters of length and with a passage of about 150 people, all bike lovers and the vast majority American, moved in tandem from Castelón to Valencia, where they again embark at the port of Valencia.
