Plan of reception and handling of ship waste
PortCastelló has taken on the management of the collection of rubbish and the recovery of solid and liquid waste from ships with the objective of reducing to a minimum discharges into the sea and thus contamination and damage to the marine environment. In this way the Port Authority is carrying out the policy developed by the European Union and its member states, in compliance with the transfer and internal application of Directive 200/59/CE of the European Parliament and Council (27th November 2000) by Royal Decree 1381/2002 (20th December 2000), concerning port facilities for the collection of waste produced by ships and cargo residues.

This ruling fits in perfectly with the environmental policy of PortCastelló, which aims to increase the protection of the marine environment, both within and outside the port as well as to improve the facilities provided for the collection and disposal of waste. In the disposal of this waste the Port Authority also complies with the regulations stipulated by the International Maritime Organisation’s MARPOL 73/78 agreement.
The Port of Castellón is therefore acting in accordance with protocols that assure that the collection and disposal of waste is as clean and efficient as possible:
- 1. The importance of the proper disposal of waste generated by vessels and cargo residues.
- 2. Location of the port facilities for the collection of waste in the Port of Castellón.
- 3. List of the most common types of waste generated by vessels and cargo residues.
- 4. List of contact points, information office, operators and services offered.
- 5. Description of the procedure for handing over waste produced by vessels and cargo residues.
- 6. Description of the charges for this service.
