Chairman's Statement

Presidente Puerto Castellón

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Port of Castellón through this new website. The new developments in technology have lead us to bring our internet window up to date to enable people all over the world to get to know our Port better. An old Port with a long tradition, being now more than a hundred years old, but also new, since over the past decade it has undergone an unprecedented development and transformation, multiplying by ten the harbour area available.

Strategically situated on the Eastern Mediterranean coast in Castellón, a city of 170,000 inhabitants where 95% of the Spanish ceramics industry is concentrated, the Port of Castellón provides nearly 5 kilometres of dock front, a depth of 16 metres in the harbours and a logistic platform totalling  840 hectares made up of the Serrallo Industrial Estate (power stations and petrochemicals) and  Parc Castelló (logístics).

In the the North Basin the most important feature is the Ceramics Wharf (Muelle de la Cerámica) for bulk solids and the Centenary Wharf  (Muelle del Centenario), equipped with four Portainer cranes for containers and other general cargo vehicles..In the South Basin, inaugurated in 2009, covering an area of 2 million square metres, is situated the PortSur solid bulks terminal in which two contiguous clinker plants operate. In addition there is the first Biodiesel plant in Europe. The first petrol refinery of the Valencian Region as well as other installations in the Serrallo estate, now operate from berths on the Poniente Breakwater

The Port of Castellón has an excellent dual carriageway connection to the AP7, A7 and the N-340.  At the same time there is a northern railway access and a project to provide a new southern railway access is underway. The Port of Castellón is also the biggest exporter of citric fruits to the USA and Russia and is now attracting the attention of cruise ship companies.

If you explore this web site further, it is possible to take a virtual walk around and see for yourself how the dynamic evolution of the Port of Castellón has taken place; a modern port, efficient and sustainable and increasingly well adapted to the needs of the new century.
