Annual Report 2010 is a clear reflection of how the Port of Castellón is overcoming the economic crisis, through the diversification of traffic, with more and better infrastructure and services and a strong commitment to quality, efficiency and innovation in order to remain competitive.

The Port of Castellón has achieved, in 2010, a recovery of its traffic by means of the consolidation of new goods and the entrance of new regular lines that have chosen our port for their activity.

Since the early 2010, the port began to detect an increase in traffic that have ended the year with a general increase in traffic over 12%. Specifically, in Zone I has been increased 45% over the previous year, growth that has been made possible mainly by the consolidation of new traffic that began to operate in the Port of Castellón in 2009, which have been a significant increase during 2010 such as coke, cereals and biodiesel.

One of the most remarkable growth during 2010 has been the cargo within containers. With the arrival of new regular lines it has exceeded once again the 100,000 TEUs. It is worth mentioning the success of the new regular lines who joined earlier this year to the services offered from Castellón. Likewise, the commitment to rail service that connects Castellón and Madrid once a week, allowed a high degree of versatility in the dynamics and connectivity of the port with its hinterland, thus optimizing the distances travel and time of distribution. Aware of the importance of the railway, we support and cooperate with the Association FERRMED.

In 2010, the most important work done has been the "Extension of the breakwater and dredging of the South Basin”. The work consists in extending the dike "Modesto Vigueras". This ensures the shelter of all the waters of both the north and south of the port. The design of the breakwater was carried out with a completely innovative technology and obey, in addition to fulfilling the functions of shelter, to providing the front facing with the qualities needed to absorb wave energy and prevent the formation of waves in the cross navigation channel as a result of the phenomena of reflection.
